A TEENAGE cyclist and his father crashed after a lorry forced them off the road.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, in Manchester Road, Blackrod, near the junction with Vicarage Road, at 4.30pm on Friday, August 31.
The lorry drove off after the incident and officers are trying to trace the driver.
The 13-year-old boy went into the back of his 41-year-old father and they both fell off their bikes.
The youngster suffered knee injuries and his father suffered bruising to his back.
The father, who asked not to be named, said: “The lorry came right out on to our side of the road and around parked cars when we had the right of way.
“We had to try to avoid him and we crashed. He stopped briefly, turned round to look and then drove off. There were witnesses who went after it to get the registration plate but they did not come back.
“We could have been more seriously injured and I can’t believe he did not stop to help.”
The witnesses included a United Utilities van driver and a couple in a dark grey Range Rover.
Sgt John Brennan, of the road policing unit in Leigh, said: “We are appealing for the witnesses to get in touch with us so we can trace the driver of the HGV.
“It was a pretty nasty incident and I would appeal for the witnesses to contact us on 0161 856 7201.”
