A PUB saved from the brink of extinction opens this evening.

The Cross Guns Inn was derelict before it was bought in October 2016 and given a £300,000 refurbishment.

The pub, which dates back to 1770, opens tonight at 7.30pm for the first time in two years.

Christmas decorations are already up at the pub in Blackburn Road, Egerton and the bar is fully stocked with a whole range of craft ales and wine.

There is a focus on gin behind the bar and punters will have plenty to choose from.

From Friday the pub will be serving its modern British cuisine with head chef Matt Ellis and the menu plans to incorporate local, seasonal produce.

During the refurbishment many of the original features were rediscovered and retained including the stone floor and a number of fireplaces.

Over the road a piece of land has been transformed into a 50 space carpark.
