THE North West Ambulance Service (has welcomed a report on improving ambulance services.
The National Audit Office has carried out a review of the national service, concluding there has been too much focus on speed of response.
It is recommending more attention on outcomes for patients, to improve care, as well as other measures that can be taken to make the service better and save money.
The North West has the second highest number of 999 calls in the country, at more than a million a year. It is failing to meet targets to reach those in life-threatening conditions in eight minutes and serious incidents in 19 minutes.
A spokesman for NWAS said: “We welcome the report and its recommendations to measure performance on clinical outcome as well as speed of response.”
