A DRIVER raped a teenager after pretending to be kind and offering her a lift home.

Andrew Green, aged 43, of Howe Bridge Close, Atherton was jailed for six years at Bolton Crown Court after pleading guilty to rape.

Judge Elliot Knopf heard that Saturday July 15 last year the 18-year-old woman, had been out with friends at a Leigh nightclub before going to a friend’s house in Atherton at around 4.30am the following morning. When it was time to go home she ordered a taxi and waited for it at a bus stop on Tyldesley Road.

And when Green pulled up in his white Audi she got in, believing it was the taxi she had ordered.

She soon realised the error but Green had locked the vehicle’s doors and she was unable to get out.

Green claimed that he just wanted to give her a lift home as he had a daughter her age.

But when the teenager offer him £10 for the lift he became aggressive and raped her.

Jailing Green, Judge Knopf told him he will also be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Speaking after the sentencing DC Claire Hughes of Leigh CID, said: “Green spotted his victim and pursued her, knowing she had nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.

“It’s absolutely sickening that he tried to portray himself as a Good Samaritan when his only intentions were rape.”

“Thanks to the brave woman raising the alarm so quickly, we were able to move fast and find Green to help bring him into the justice system and see him jailed.”
