Travel apprentice heads to national final

A HIGH-FLYING travel apprentice is set to represent her industry at a national awards ceremony.

Shannon Green is the only travel apprentice in the country to have made it through to the grand final of the National Apprenticeship Awards.

The 20-year, who works at Altham's Travel, in Market Street, Farnworth, was named Intermediate Apprentice of the Year at the North West final, earlier this year. She fought off competition from almost 800 entries to make it through to the regional final.

She will now compete for the National Intermediate Apprentice of the Year title at Grosvenor House in London, on January 18.

Ms Green said she was delighted to make the final.

She said: “I’m over the moon to be the only travel apprentice to have made it through to the national final and I hope I will do the industry proud.

“I have been on an amazing learning journey with Althams Travel Services and TrainingStation, developing the skills and knowledge to progress in my dream career, and it has given me the confidence to progress even further.”

Andrea Fielding, is the director of TrainingStation, which specialises in providing training and support for apprentices and companies in the travel industry.

She added: “Shannon is the epitome of what the perfect apprentice should be and demonstrates the value that great apprentices can bring to businesses.

“I first started working with her in January 2014 and she has achieved so much in that time, jointly winning the company’s Young Person of the Year that year and more recently the role of Assistant Manager.

Ms Fieding continued: “Althams Travel Services are committed to bringing through homegrown talent and Shannon now acts as a mentor to the branch’s new apprentice, so the cycle of success continues.”

The National Apprenticeship Awards are run by the National Apprenticeship Service and are now in their 14th year.
