FRIENDS and family of a kind-hearted woman who has terminal cancer are inviting the community to complete a guided busway dog walking challenge.

Vicky Sinar, of Glenview Road, Tyldesley, who has worked in a hospital healthcare position for nine years, was diagnosed with liver cancer three weeks ago.

Since then, the disease has spread to her spine.

To help the 46-year-old with treatment costs, a dog walk from the guided busway stops of Astley Street to Ellenbrook and back on Sunday, February 18 at 2pm has been organised.

There will be a competition for the best fancy dress outfit for dogs on the day.

Her best friend and godmother to both of her children, Helen Crompton, said: “It was devastating for everybody when we found out that Vicky had cancer.

“We all wanted to do something to help her and we know she loves her two dogs, Broc and Oscar, so we thought she would really enjoy something to do with them.”

People are also being encouraged to wear a fancy dress outfit to join in with the fun as well.

A crowdfunding page for Vicky has been set up with more than £2,400 raised so far.

There will also be a bucket collection on the guided busway walk in aid of Vicky, who lives with her long-term partner, firefighter Steven Howlett, and their two dogs.

Helen, 34, added: “Vicky is such a good person – you could not meet anyone nicer and has always been there for her family and friends.

“The amount of money donated to the fundraising page in the last week shows how well-liked she is.

“It will be great to repay some the kindness she has given to people over the years.

“Hopefully there will be a big turnout from the community to get behind Vicky’s cause.”

The fancy dress prize will be donated by Central Bark Dog Grooming Salon on Elliott Street in Tyldesley.

Vicky’s friends, family and work colleagues also plan to organise more events for her cause.

A fundraiser involving sponsored chest waxing has been organised on Friday, March 30 at Our Lady of Lourdes Social Club in Farnworth at 7pm.

There will be a DJ, hot supper, raffle and a tombola on the night.

Other fun and games will be on offer as well as a sweet stall.

Entry for the event is £6 for adults and £3 for children.
