AN officer from Horwich Town Council has been praised after stepping down from her role after 20 years.

Hazel Fairclough, community centre support officer, recently said goodbye to her colleagues at the public hall in Lee Lane and received a bunch of flowers to mark her retirement.

Mrs Fairclough joined the staff at Horwich Town Council in October 1998 as a clerical assistant.

She then worked in the office at Horwich Community Centre, formerly Horwich Resource Centre and she has managed the day to day running of the building in Beaumont Road.

A spokesman from Horwich Town Council paid tribute to her work over the years.

They said: "Hazel will be greatly missed by the groups, her colleagues, councillors and visitors to the Centre alike. We all wish her a long and happy retirement."
