A BEAUTY queen has revealed the story of how her young nephew was saved from the brink of death just 10 days after he was born as she prepares to skydive for charity.

Ollie Bower, nephew of Miss Community Bolton and Bury Beth Bower, was born at Royal Bolton Hospital in 2010 but had to be taken back 10 days later when he fell ill.

He was then taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital and spent five days in intensive care and four days in high dependency.

Ollie, who is now aged seven, was diagnosed with a severe viral infection and his organs had begun to shut down.

Doctors said his chances of survival were very low but he managed to make a full recovery.

Miss Bower, who lives in Deane, praised the “fantastic care” Ollie received during his time at the hospital.

She said: “Thankfully Ollie is now seven years old and a very happy and healthy little boy.

“I have raised money for the Manchester Children’s Hospital intensive care unit in the past — me and Ollie organised a family fun day together in 2016 which raised £1,315.

“He was just five years old and he wanted to say thank you to the doctors who saved his life.”

And in a bid to thank the hospital even more, the 20-year-old will be skydiving from 11,000 feet on Saturday, June 16.

Miss Bower added: “This is always a cause that I will aim to support in any way I can and I would like to use my Miss Community Bolton and Bury 2017/2018 award as a platform to support as many fantastic causes in our local area as possible. Ollie will be coming along on the day of my skydive to watch and show his support.”

The event will take place at the Black Knights Parachute Centre in Lancaster and Miss Bower will be taking part alongside about 15 people skydiving for the hospital.

After climbing to 11,000 feet, Miss Bower will jump from the aircraft with her instructor, free-falling for about 30 seconds and reaching speeds of up to 120 miles per hour before the parachute is deployed.

Miss Bower has set a fundraising target of £200 on her Just Giving page.
