Conservative leadership candidate Jeremy Hunt conducted a Twitter Q&A session on Tuesday after rival Boris Johnson declined to take part in a televised debate.

The Foreign Secretary explained that he was to debate Boris Johnson on Sky, however Mr Johnson pulled out. Mr Hunt instead answered the public’s questions on Twitter from 8pm to 9pm.

Mr Hunt replied to questions concerning Brexit and the NHS using the hashtag #BoJoNoShow.

Among the serious answers to Twitter users’ questions were a few lighthearted retorts. Here are the funniest answers from the leadership Q&A session.

1. Mr Hunt took aim at Theresa May’s leather trousers.

Prime Minister Theresa May was pictured in an “at home” interview with the Sunday Times in 2016 wearing a pair of leather trousers that reportedly cost £995.

2. The candidate said he prefers Game Of Thrones to Love Island.

3. He used the Q&A to stress that he does like cheese…

4. And that he prefers canines to felines.

5. Mr Hunt poked fun at Mrs May’s “fields of wheat” anecdote.

In an interview with Julie Etchingham of ITV’s Tonight programme in 2017, the Prime Minister revealed the “naughtiest” thing she’d ever done was run through fields of wheat.

She said: “There are times when… I have to confess, when me and my friend, sort of, used to run through the fields of wheat.”

6. One Twitter user posed an odd question.

7. Lastly, he made fun of a common slip-up of his own name.

Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt face a series of hustings in the race to Number 10 over the coming weeks, with the announcement of the new Tory leader taking place on July 23.

Theresa May is expected to take her last session of Prime Minister’s Questions on July 24 before heading to Buckingham Palace to offer her resignation to the Queen.

The new leader will then go to the palace to formally become the new prime minister.
