Coronation Street star Chris Gascoyne who is best known for his iconic role as Peter Barlow is swapping the cobbles for the sea.

The 55-year-old has been on the ITV1 soap for more than two decades but he’s now heading off on another adventure on the stage.

He has starred in around 1,500 episodes, taking a few breaks in between but since last returning in October 2016, he has been entertaining the nation as one of the Barlow family members ever since.

Coronation Street’s Chris Gascoyne lands new role on stage

Chris will be joining the cast of The All New Adventures of Peter Pan, playing the role of Captain Hook at The Alban Arena.

He will be heading to Saint Alban’s for panto season this year throughout Christmas and New Year, which the venue has described as “exciting news.”

In an announcement shared on Facebook, the theatre posted: “The Alban Arena are delighted to announce Coronation Street Legend Chris Gascoyne will star as Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter Pan this pantomime season!

“Chris Gascoyne is famous for his role as Peter Barlow in Britain’s top soap, Coronation Street (ITV) in which he has led numerous high profile storylines to great acclaim.”

It added: “This promises to be our most spectacular pantomime yet with stunning sets, dazzling costumes, and a star-studded cast, this is a must-see show for the whole family.

“Don't miss your chance to experience the wonder and excitement of Neverland once more in Paul Hendy's pantomime sequel!”

Coronation Street favourite set to return after five years

George Banks will reprise his role as Gemma Winter-Brown’s ex-boyfriend Henry Newton for a brief spell on Coronation Street, The Sun has said.

He made his Corrie debut in 2017 and became a fan favourite before leaving the show in 2018.

However, it’s been reported he will return to the soap soon, with revelations that may not go down too well with Gemma and her husband Chesney.

And George isn’t the only former Corrie star making a return, after Dame Maureen Lipman was revealed to be reprising her role as Evelyn Plummer.

Originally quitting the show due to becoming “worn out” by her character’s story, Maureen was spotted with co-stars of the soap, including new addition Claire Sweeney who has joined the famous street as Tyrone Dobb's mum, Cassandra Plummer.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Claire said: “Tyrone was always led to believe Jackie was his mum and she wasn't. He was then told his mum was dead.

“That's the twist, I turn up to the cobbles with a few major problems, and I'll leave it there!"
