Sheridan Smith has revealed that she "regretted" having so many tattoos due to the process of having to cover them up whilst filming for her latest TV series.

The 42-year-old stars in the Paramount+ thriller The Castaways, and as part of filming she had to use waterproof makeup to cover up the artwork on her body.

Speaking to Radio Times for its Christmas issue Smith described the transition into her character Lori as “such fun” and that it was quite nice to have no face make-up.

However, the issue of her having a few tattoos caused some logistical problems that were annoying to deal with.

'I never regretted my tats so much'

Discussing filming for The Castaways, Smith said: “Normally I can get away with cardigans or long-sleeve shirts, but wrecked on a tropical island…"

“I had a call three hours before anyone else,” she added.

“I couldn’t use my usual stuff to cover them up, it had to be waterproof. So three people were dabbing away every day to cover it all.

“I never regretted my tats so much – I’ll never have another one."

What is The Castaways about?

In the UK original drama series, based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Lucy Clarke, Smith stars with Celine Buckens, who plays her sister Erin.

They are due to fly to Fiji, but Erin never boards the flight and she is left with questions after the plane that Lori is on fails to arrive at its destination.

Months later Erin is shocked to be alerted that Lori's credit card has been used, with CCTV footage revealing that the person who did that was the doomed flight's pilot, Mike Brasse.

It compels Erin to go searching for answers, with her story played parallel alongside Lori's desperate fight for survival.
