LEIGH'S Labour candidate for the general election Jo Platt has set out plans to transform the towns across the constituency.

Ms Platt will be fighting to keep her seat at the election, which will be held on Thursday, December 12.

She has set out her five-point plan to “get Leigh working for the many once again and put our community back on the map”.

Her priority is to finish the job of restoring rail connectivity to the constituency. This follows a campaign she started as the MP which has already secured a full transport review, three proposed rail stations to serve Leigh and a feasibility study that is set to be reported.

She also committed, if re-elected, to continue voting against NHS cuts and privatisation, campaign to scrap.

Ms Platt wants to replace Universal Credit that 11,000 people in Leigh are stuck on.

She also wants to support the growth of community groups and help to create green jobs and the industry needed to tackle the climate emergency while boosting the local economy.

She said: “I am enormously proud to stand for re-election in my home constituency where I live with my two children.

"This election is our opportunity to transform Leigh and unlock our incredible potential.

“Our constituency needs a strong, local and trusted voice to stand up and fight for the investment we need and deserve to transform Leigh for the better.

"I have a positive, local plan to get our towns working for us again. It’s time for real change.”
