HERE are some of the unkempt faces of men who joined a challenge to go unkempt during the lockdown after being inspired by a Leigh dad.

Tony Doyle had an unsuccessful trip to get his hair cut at a barbers just before the lockdown in March which sparked the idea for Tony to put a call out on Facebook for men willing to let their hair grow.

One picture sent to him was of a friend, Danny Fallows, who already looked unkempt.

This inspired Tony to set up a Facebook group for men to join with a pledge not to do any personal grooming with a prize at the end for the worst looking.

The group has taken off way beyond Tony's imaginations with thousands of members from across the world, meaning thousands of pounds was raised for the NHS with members asked to pay £1.

The Facebook page became like a "little community overnight" with members sharing messages and jokes to support each other.

With the lockdown now easing and a gradual return to normality underway, Tony has picked the best (or 'worst') unkempt beards from men who have taken on the challenge.

"I set up the group and on the Friday morning it had 500 members and then 950 and I thought this is getting big so I had the idea to raise a bit of money for the NHS," said Tony.
