A LEADING food production company says that it is investing in a new fleet of low carbon vans.

Clayton Park Bakery, based in Clayton-le-Moors, says that this has been made possible by increased sales and a strong growth in demand for deliveries.

As such, the firm will be investing in four new ISUZU Grafter "Green" vans, each of which has been specially for Clayton Park Bakery with advanced temperature control and featuring the firm's "Baked for the taste" livery.

Marketing manager Paul Bradley said: "Clayton Park Bakery is a company routed in tradition, but our focus is firmly on the future.

"With these new vehicles we'll be able to cut our carbon footprint and keep our customers' shelves stocked for years to come."

Clayton Park Bakery first opened in 1995 by selling sausage rolls and meat pies in Blackburn Market.

Since then the company has won a Great Taste Award in 2015 for their Lancashire Butter Pie and now produce over 8 million products per year while employing 167 staff.

Havign expanded beyond East Lancashire. Clayton Park Bakery products are available in Spar shops around the north west, ASDA, and Booths supermarkets.

Their pies are also sold at sporting venues like Liverpool, Everton, Burnley, Wigan Athletic and Preston North End football clubs.

The company hopes that investing thousands of pounds in the low carbon vans, which it hopes will be able to help them keep up with deliveries, will help to build on this growth.

ISUZU hopes that Clayton Park Bakery will be among many UK companies that reduce their CO2 emissions using the vans.

Explaining how the technology works, a spokesperson said: "The new ISUZU Grafter ‘Green' introduces new technology to the UK market that enables a reduction in CO2 emissions, greater fuel efficiency because of the reduced weight of the cab, and a significant noise reduction."
