A FATHER-of-seven has been banned from a Poundland store for two years after going back to 'remonstrate' with staff the day after he was caught stealing.

Jobless heroin addict Raymond Barker, 52, left Diane Cronin, who had reported him for shoplifting, frightened to leave the shop in Broadway, Accrington, Burnley Crown Court heard.

Barker, a depressed former TA soldier, was walking up and down, pointed a finger towards staff and told them: "You lot are going to get it it. I don't care who comes and if I get 25 years you will get it."

The defendant, said to have been introduced to drugs in his 40s while in jail, was later arrested but claimed he had done nothing.

Barker, of Devonshire Street, Accrington, admitted using threatening or abusive words or behaviour, last November 12.

He was cleared of witness intimidation and having an offensive weapon, after the prosecution offered no evidence.

The defendant was also given a two-year conditional discharge.

As well as not being allowed to go into Poundland under the restraining order, he must not go within 25 metres of the entrance.

Judge Philip Butler told him: "That was disgraceful conduct and it's conduct that the court can't in any way condone or ignore."

The judge added the restraining order was protect the Poundland staff and in particular Miss Cronin.

The hearing was told Barker had a long criminal record and had twice been convicted of stealing from the Poundland store. He was already on supervision and a drug rehabilitation programme.

Daniel King, for Barker, said he acknowledged his behaviour was unacceptable and he wished to apologise.
