AN EXTRAORDINARY meeting as been called to formally appoint Bolton’s council leader.
Cllr Linda Thomas was chosen by Labour councillors to succeed Cllr Cliff Morris in leading the party’s council group last month.
She has assumed the duties of council leader in an acting capacity since Cllr Morris stepped down after 11 years as leader and had been expected to be formally confirmed in her new role at the next scheduled full council meeting on February 21.
However, a special meeting at the town hall has now been called for 6pm on February 5 at which councillors of all parties will vote on her appointment.
Earlier this month, Labour selected Cllr Ebrahim Adia to succeed Cllr Thomas as deputy leader.
