A POWER cut in Westhoughton left 63 customers without power.

The power was removed from customers in Broom Way at 5.45am this morning after safety concerns due to an underground cable fault.

A spokesperson from Electricity North West said: "Our engineers quickly arrived on site to ensure the area was safe and they will be conducting an investigation into the cause of the fault.

"The fault, which occurred on a piece of equipment underneath the pavement, caused external damage on site, but we would like to assure customers that incidents of this nature are extremely rare and we regularly maintain our underground network to ensure customers across the North West receive a reliable supply of electricity.

"If customers would like any further information they can contact us 24/7 on the new free national number 105, or 0800 195 4141 or follow us @ElectricityNW."

Power was restored at 1.20pm.
