EAGLEY will be the last club in the Bolton League to decide on their future on Thursday night.

At the moment 11 of the league's 14 clubs have committed themselves to the new expanded Bolton League.

Greenmount and Egerton have left to join the new Greater Manchester League and Eagley are considering their next move.

The Bolton League will have a minimum of 20 clubs in its first season after applications were accepted from nine clubs from the Bolton Association which will fold at the end of the current season.

It is enough to ensure the Bolton League will be up and running next season, although they are hoping to recruit more clubs with the ideal figure set at 24.

Flixton, Edgworth, Radcliffe and an unnamed club are considering the Bolton League option among others as they decide their next move.

Eagley are understood to be in two minds over whether to stay in the Bolton League or join the GMCL.

If they leave they will become only the second of the 16 clubs situated within the borough of Bolton to quit either of the two Bolton leagues, following Egerton.

One concern of Eagley is believed to be financial. A club with comparatively modest finances compared with many in the Bolton League, they do not find it easy to pay for a professional player of the standard required by the League.

But club vice-chairman Geoff Cleworth says a decision will not be made on finances alone.

"We have to decide and our decision will not be made purely on financial reasons," he said.

"That would be wrong. There are other things we need to discuss and there will be an open meeting on June 25 when we will discuss what we are going to do next and then we will have to make a decision soon after."

If a club decides to join another league they have to resign from their current league by June 30.

Mr Cleworth added: "The feeling is people need to be as sure as they possibly can be that the club can continue into the future.

"Some believe that is more important than which league you play in."
