NEIL Lennon reckons he is slowly getting it right at Wanderers.

Four games unbeaten and heading to Huddersfield Town tomorrow with three clean sheets from the opening seven Championship outings, the Whites boss is encouraged by “steady improvement” in his squad.

Though a search for a regular goalscorer stepped up a level this week when Zach Clough was ruled out until the New Year with a dislocated shoulder, Lennon has no complaints with how his side are playing at present.

“They are giving me everything at the moment,” he told The Bolton News. “It is very pleasing for a manager.

“We are by no means the finished article. There are areas we can improve. But we’ve kept three clean sheets this season and we’ve got seven points.

“The progress is slow but that’s the reality. It’s what we expected it to be. We just have to keep working away.”

Lennon will choose between Emile Heskey and Gary Madine to lead the line at the John Smith’s Stadium but will have to make at least one alteration to the team that drew 0-0 against Sheffield Wednesday.

Stephen Dobbie pressed his claim for a first Wanderers start with another bright cameo off the bench, while Jay Spearing and Josh Vela could also be drafted into midfield, allowing Mark Davies to push further forward.

Max Clayton, who made a scoring return for the development squad after long-term injury on Monday night, will not feature.

Though his side are by no means free-scoring, Lennon is content to see them defending well. And with another tight game predicted on the Pennines this weekend, he is keen to see the rearguard continue to shine.

“If we’re not going to win games then I’m happy we’re not losing them,” he said. “We are defending really well at the moment and the goalkeeper, Ben Amos, has been excellent. He’s young, fit, and I think we can get a lot of mileage out of him.

“Prince was outstanding and Derik too. Sheffield Wednesday are a big physical team and we looked comfortable at set plays, and dangerous on our own set plays.

“Lawrie Wilson has been very good and Dean Moxey the model of consistency.

“It’s good to be able to have that consistency in selection too. It was the first time in a long time I’d been able to name the same 18.

“We’ll obviously have to change something for Saturday but there’s a real determination about the defending.”
