YOUNG Wanderers striker Jamie Thomas started his second game in succession for Wales Under-19s on Saturday but could not help his side avoid defeat.

In the second of three quickfire UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifiers in Georgia, Thomas completed 72 minutes of a 2-0 loss to Austria in Tbilisi.

The 18-year-old forward was also in the starting line-up for Wales' first Group Eight game on Thursday – a 3-0 victory over hosts Georgia – and played 70 minutes before being substituted.

The final clash for Wales sees them take on Albania today.

Meanwhile, Whites striker Conor Wilkinson was on target for Republic of Ireland's Under-21s on Friday but ended up on the losing side in Lithuania as the hosts won 3-1 in the UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifying round meeting.

Wilkinson, who is currently on loan at Barnsley, equalised for the Irish just before half time with a fine strike from distance.

The 20-year-old could be in action again today when Ireland host Norway in a friendly in Waterford.
