JIMMY Phillips is set to leave some senior stars behind for today’s trip to Cardiff City and crack on with the kids.

Dean Moxey and Liam Trotter are among the first teamers who could be shelved as the interim boss names a youthful squad for the penultimate away game of the season.

Emile Heskey and David Wheater will keep their place in the side, however, with Phillips insisting their experience is having a positive effect on some of the academy graduates.

“They have really helped the younger players, particularly David at centre-half who has brought Rob Holding along,” he told The Bolton News.

“We tried a couple of games with Kaiyne Woolery up front and he is one for the future, he has great pace but he’s still learning the game. He isn’t long out of non-league.

“Emile holds the ball up and allows us to get out of defence, that’s the reason why he’s played.

“We have experimented with different formations and styles but we feel at this moment in time Emile is the man to play up front with Kaiyne coming on once the game has opened up a bit.

“In the last two games he’s had opportunities one-on-one where he had a chance to use his pace but for one reason or another has not got his shot away.

“It looked like a dream opportunity but he’s learning, working hard on his game, and he will be an asset in the future.”
