WANDERERS allowed a half-time lead to slip against local rivals Preston North End to suffer a rare home defeat.

Mark Beevers' 12th minute goal failed to settle Phil Parkinson's side and after Tom Barkhuizen had brought the visitors level, Sean Maguire came off the bench to score twice, sealing the points.

But how did the Wanderers players rate? Marc Iles gives his official verdict.

The Bolton News:

WANDERERS (3-5-2)

BEN ALNWICK…7 Made some important saves in the first half to at least give Wanderers a fighting chance. One wobble inn the second half but largely blameless for the goals.

DORIAN DERVITE…4 Couldn't cope with the pace and movement of Barkhuizen and looked uncomfortable after being switched to the right side of defence after the break.

DAVID WHEATER…6.5 Made some good blocks and let little past him - but he is better on the ball than he showed against Preston. Possession surrendered too often.

MARK BEEVERS…6.5 Grabbed an overdue goal and looked a threat at every set piece but like Wheater, he was guilty of playing the 'out ball' as if Gary Madine was still leading the line up front.

FILIPE MORAIS…6 Looked to have the measure of Preston's defence in the first half and combined quite well with Ameobi. Switched to the opposite flank later on and lost his way in the game.

JOSH VELA…5 Struggled to get a foothold in the game until he was pushed further up. Ran his socks off, as ever, but Wanderers need to find a way of getting him on the ball more.

JEM KARACAN…4 No faulting the effort - and there were plenty of miles covered - but Karacan just couldn't get near the Preston midfielders around him.

DARREN PRATLEY…4.5 Looked a yard off the pace. After such an encouraging performance against Norwich, he failed to affect the game in the same way or snuff out the Preston counter attacks.

ANTONEE ROBINSON…5.5 Outnumbered on a couple of occasions and still makes the odd rash decision - but the young full-back kept coming back.

SAMMY AMEOBI…5.5 Some nice exchanges with Morais and Vela but Ameobi didn't do enough close to the Preston penalty box.

TYLER WALKER…4 Played as the focal point of attack but looked a bit lost throughout the first hour of the game.

Subs: Le Fondre 5, 64 (for Walker) - Struggled to get into it.

Kirchhoff 5.5, 64 (for Karacan) - A couple of nice touches Wilbraham 85 (for Pratley) - Seemed an odd substitution.

Not used: Howard, Taylor, Burke, Clough
