LUCY Dixon proved herself a racing success at two sports.

The Westhoughton teenager showed her all-round talent with impressive performances in county running and swimming championships.

She struck gold in the Lancashire County Swimming Championships along with winning two silver and three bronze medals, while on the grass she was third in the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships.

Over the course of three weekends in the pool the Bolton School Year 8 pupil became Lancashire county girls' under-13s 800m freestyle champion, finished second in the 400m freestyle and 200m breaststroke and took bronze in the 400m and 200m individual medleys and 200m freestyle.

As a Year 8 pupil she was one of the younger runners in the Year 8/9 race in the Greater Manchester Schools' Cross Country Championships at Heaton Park where she represented Bolton who finished second in the team competition.

But that did not stop her taking the bronze medal spot as the first Bolton girl home in gruelling conditions.

Her performance earned her selection for the Greater Manchester team at the English Schools Cross Country Championship in Leeds on March 17.

Before that she runs for the GM team in the Inter County Cross Country Championships in Loughborough this Saturday.

Fellow Bolton School pupil Blythe Cordwell also produced an impressive performance at the Greater Manchester Championships, finishing 14th in the Year 7 race.

She was third home for the Bolton team which were second overall.
