EVEN though his side was pegged back in the draw at Barnsley, Craig Noone is confident Wanderers can play their way out of trouble.

Desperately short of first-team action this term, Noone came off the bench and looked like securing a vital win at Oakwell, firing the Whites 2-1 ahead with five minutes to go.

And although Barnsley avoided slipping five points adrift with Oli McBurnie’s stoppage-time goal, Noone is staying positive about their own survival chances.

“My instinct says we’ll be fine,” said the Liverpudlian after netting his first goal in a Whites shirt.

“The next couple of games are obviously tough but you’ve seen our character today, coming from a goal behind at a place like this was tough but it should stand us in good stead for the next few games.

“The harder you work, the luckier you get, I think. We’ve got a good team spirit, we’re all working for each other and I think that’s what’s keeping us in good stead.

“It would have been a bit better if we’d hung on for the win but I’m delighted to get my first goal, it’s just gutting about the result.

“We’ve got to take the pros out of the second-half performance and take that onwards into the next couple of games.”

Wanderers may yet have some sleepless nights to endure but, having ended a four-game losing streak, and three matches without a goal, they stay two points ahead of Saturday’s hosts.

And, while they need their rivals to drop points in the next few weeks, the summer capture from Cardiff is hoping he can play his part in helping steer the club to safety.

“I think we knew we were going to get chances, we showed our character to come from behind and go for it,” he told The Bolton News. “And Alfie (Adam Le Fondre) deserves a lot of credit, with all the pressure and the time it took to take the penalty.

“It was a great pen by him, and then I thought I’d scored the winner but it wasn’t to be. That’s football though, with the highs and lows. I was high one minute but then when that one went in I was devastated.

“I’d have liked to have more of an effect with what I’ve been doing but I’ll be training hard all week and if I’m involved I’ll give 100 per cent and if not I’ll back the lads.”
