LOSTOCK'S Andy Laycock put in a fine display to finish eighth in his age group at the Blackstick Blue 10k.

Laycock headed to the village of Whitechapel in the Trough of Bowland for the race, so named because it is sponsored by the famous cheese-maker.

The undulating 10k route took Laycock and the other competitors through some of the most picturesque parts of Bowland, finishing in a time of 49mins 13secs which placed him 47th out of the 162 finishers.

Laycock had warmed up for the Blackstick Blue at Haigh Hall parkrun with a time of 24:44, where he was joined by fellow Lostocker Anthony Wilcock, who finished in 23:53 in his first parkrun.

Mark Shuttleworth posted a time of 22:34 at Worsley Woods, while Jocelyn Chadderton posted 28:12 at Bolton.

Away from road running and on the bikes, Neil Shelmerdine competed the 115-mile Tour of the Peak cycle sportif in 9:10:00.

Starting and finishing in Bakewell, the course has a total elevation of 10,000 feet of climbing and takes in the infamous climbs at Winner's Pass, Holme Moss and the seven-mile Cat and Fiddle.

The ride proved invaluable training for when Shelmerdine takes on the Coast to Coast in a Day challenge later this summer.
