MICHELE Sunter celebrated her birthday with contrasting age-group wins at the Harrock Hill midweek fell race and then at the Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon.

Sunter was one of six Lostockers who headed to Bispham for the second of the four-race Harrock Hill series and came away with a  comprehensive age-group victory.

Fellow Lostocker Mark Shuttleworth secured a third-place age-group finish, and there were equally strong runs from Albert Sunter, Jocelyn Chadderton, Rob Garstang and Chris Taylor.

Sunter continued her strong form into the weekend at a very hot Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon.

Navigating over high Lakeland fells and with an overnight camp, Sunter and partner Mark Sammon were the fifth pair overall and first-placed mixed couple in their category.

Husband Albert Sunter and Tony Marlow placed fourth in the same category event, while Mary White and her partner were first-placed female veterans in their race.

Josie Greenhalgh was fourth woman in her individual category, while Jocelyn Chadderton completed the Lostock contingent with partner Tony Varley.

The blistering Lakeland weather did not affect the performance of Lostock's triathletes at the Windermere standard distance triathlon.

Jack Bibby carried on his form from Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire to finish 14th overall in a time of 2hrs 35mins 39secs, while Cathy Stratton similarly took her middle-distance form into the shorter standard format to finish 19th-placed woman in 3:21:47.

An injured Alan Mather completed the trio of Lostockers, finishing in 3:47:44.

Paul Lacey showed similar strength in adversity and true sportsmanship at the Southport half marathon, finishing in a time of 2:00:09 while injured and twice stopping to assist fellow runners suffering heat exhaustion and distress in the extreme weather conditions.

Lostock's attention switches back to the Lake District next weekend when numerous club members are supporting Mike Ernill in his Bob Graham attempt.
