THIS week we return to football after the start of the new season and have unearthed this picture from April 1971.

It shows Peter Caldwell scoring the second goal for St Osmund's in the final of the Catholic schools knockout competition against SS Peter and Paul's.

The information accompanying the picture says it was played at St Patrick's RC primary school, Withins Drive, Bolton but there is little else to go on.

Do you remember that game or did you play in it?

Do you know the final score?

If the picture brings back any memories, email david.pye@nqnw.co.uk.

The second photograph was published in last week's sporting nostalgia section and features the Egerton CC team from June 1987.

It evoked memories for several readers who sent in their recollections.

Paul Tebay named the team and said: "The team is, back, from left, Ian Taylor, Jon Bradshaw, Ken Dickinson Dilip Patel (pro), Tony Hurst, Nigel Tebay; front, Mark Booth (scorer), Simon Haslam, John Murtagh (New Zealand overseas amateur), Ian Booth (captain), me and Mike Booth.

"It was a funny season ā€“ Ian Taylor won the league bowling prize and I won the league batting prize and league player of the year, yet Egerton finished bottom of the league."

Wayne Birtwistle and Ken Dickinson could also put names to faces on the photograph with Ken adding: "I played for Egerton for 26 years."

Ian Booth also sent in his memories and said: "I had the pleasure of being captain of the Flashback picture you published.

"We were a young side with quite a few inclusions from the previous year's Birtwistle Cup winning side.

"While we did not win anything that season there were notable performances through the season by Paul Tebay, who got more than 1,000 runs and broke the club batting record and I think Ian Taylor won the league bowling prize that season too.

"Both have gone on to represent the Bolton League successfully.

"Ken Dickinson has been a stalwart of the Bolton League and has family connections throughout the league.

"Thanks for publishing our team photo ā€“ Iā€™m sure it will be included in our cricketing heritage."
