LOSTOCK'S Mary White finished first in her age group in the the Bassenthwaite Standard Distance Triathlon last Saturday.

This is one of the more scenic triathlon courses around, providing beautiful Lake District backdrops, but is also very challenging.

Competitors take on an open-water swim in Bassenthwaite lake, with the run and bike legs taking place on the undulating roads surrounding it.

White put in a very impressive performance to finish with an overall time of 3hrs 17mins 41secs.

She completed the 1,500m swim in 34:31, the 40k bike leg in 1:35:47 and the 10k run in 1:01:07.

Closer to home, Tony Marlow ran Cuerden Valley parkrun in 22:50, coming second in his age category.

Matthew Allen achieved a new personal best completing Bolton parkrun in 28:31 and Karen Taylor returned from a recent injury to run 29:01 at Worsley Woods parkrun – her fastest time this year.

Meanwhile, Josie Greenhalgh took time out of the annual Lostock AC club camp to take part in the Pendle 3 Peaks fell race.

Starting at Barley, the race heads to the top of Pendle Hill, only to descend before encountering another three stiff climbs before finally heading back to Barley.

The race covered 9.4 miles and 2,838 feet of climbing on what was a very humid day.

Greenhalgh put in a very strong effort to finish 10th lady overall and fifth in her age category with a time of 1:58:40.

This is all the more impressive given she is fresh from completing the Lakeland 100 at the end of July.
