TONGE captain Danny Delvard believes the Bolton League Premiership will get "two dangerous clubs" if his side can clinch the second promotion spot in the last two games.

The race to join Association division champions Little Lever in the top flight next season could barely be tighter with four clubs still in with a chance of taking the one place still available.

The team that wins tomorrow's big showdown between hosts Tonge and Adlington will be in the box seat as the pair go into the game level on points in second and third positions with Astley Bridge a further two behind.

With six points for a win and one bonus point available per game it is still possible for Golborne to snatch second should they win their last two matches and the three teams above them slip up.

But it will be whichever of Tonge or Adlington win tomorrow who will be promoted should they win their last match.

And with the two of them facing the two bottom clubs on the last day the odds will be in favour of them getting that last-day win.

Despite the two teams who were promoted last season, Atherton and Daisy Hill, having tough seasons and coming straight back down, both Adlington and Tonge have said they want to test themselves against the big teams in the top division.

And Delvard says his club and Little Lever would give the other eight Premiership sides plenty to think about next season should Tonge manage to pip their three rivals to second place.

"No disrespect to any other clubs but if we were fortunate enough to go up nobody will want to play Tonge or Little Lever next year," he said.

"We're competitive teams, dangerous clubs and we play competitive, aggressive cricket.

"We want to go up. We have played with the mindset all season of winning the league.

"That was our aim at the start of the season.

"I'm not saying we would rip up any trees in the Premiership but it would be another forward step in our progression.

"Three years ago we couldn't bat, we couldn't bowl and we couldn't field. Now we are going into the last two games of the season looking to win promotion to the Premiership.

"That shows how far we have come.

"We've got a competitive team and players like Sam Hardman, who's scored nearly 500 runs, Adam and Alex Rodzoch, Nas Ahmed, Connor Lord, Craig Naylor and Craig Buckley who could get in any team."

On tomorrow's game, which will be followed by a trip to bottom club Eagley next Saturday, he said: "We know all about big games – our last five games have all been big games and with each one the stakes get higher.

"Astley Bridge are hard on our heels. They're in the same position as we were in seven days before we played them last week when we came out on top.

"That shows how it can change so quickly.

"We are looking forward to Saturday, the lads are excited. We are just trying to keep a lid on it.

"We know what we need to do and I'm sure Adlington do too.

"We need to keep our discipline and not panic in the middle of the game, in that 20-to-40-overs spell when it is easy to switch off. I've told them not to switch off.

"We will be as competitive as we can be and try to use our wisdom, experience and character to try to get that victory which would put us in the box seat."
