LOSTOCK AC's Mark Shuttleworth, Chris Taylor and Josie Greenhalgh headed to Glenridding at the foot of Helvellyn to compete in one of The Lake District's toughest races, the Grisedale Horse.

Designed to rival the Ben Nevis race in terms of distance and ascent, the 10.5-mile event starts at Glenridding and visits the summits of Catstye Cam, Helvellyn and St Sunday's Crag, as well as Grisedale Tarn for more than 5,000 feet of ascent.

Weather conditions were warm as Taylor turned in a powerful performance to finish in 2hrs 49mins, with Shuttleworth finishing in 2:55:00 and Greenhalgh in 3:03:00.

Shuttleworth and Taylor had also gone head-to-head in Lostock AC's chairman's fell race the previous Wednesday, with Shuttleworth claiming the bragging rights in a time of 54:03 and Taylor finishing in 55:22, but these times only allowed them to finish second and third respectively after a storming run by Brian Halton, who brought home the club championship in a time of 52:33.

Josie Greenhalgh was first woman home in a time of 54:05.

Bolton parkrun was the setting for Phil Sloane and Paul O'Brien to ease themselves back into competitive running with times of 27:59 and 30:42 respectively, while Andy Laycock came within 10 seconds of a personal-best time at Haigh Hall parkrun with a time of 23:05.
