TEMPEST United secured a safe passage to round two of the Lancashire FA Amateur Shield, with a comfortable 3-0 win at Burscough Richmond.

Josh Melling put Tempest ahead in the 12th minute and Aaron Thorpe doubled the lead eight minutes later.

Nathan Monson sealed their win with a third goal 18 minutes from time.

Bolton County are also through, with a 4-3 win at St Helens Town.

In the West Lancashire Premier Division, Turton were beaten 3-1 by visitors Euxton Villa.

Dylan Winstanley cancelled out Euxton’s opener with 15 minutes gone and the teams turned around at 1-1.

But, after Villa regained the lead 10 minutes into the second half, they made the game safe with a third goal with 10 minutes left on the clock.

In Division One, CMB were painfully slow out of the blocks in their match at home to Lytham Town, and paid for it.

They conceded four times in the first 34 minutes, including a Ross Ainsworth hat-trick for the visitors, and although Will Archer gave them hope with a goal before half time, CMB could only manage two more goals, from Callum Yeardsley on 74 minutes, and Paul Hallows three minutes from time, as they fell to a 4-3 defeat.

Eagley also suffered a home defeat, despite taking the lead twice in the first half against Ulverston Rangers.

Zac Clarke’s 15th-minute strike was cancelled out by Rangers and Bailey Wallace made it 2-1 to Eagley on the half-hour mark. But two second-half goals without reply gave Ulverston the three points in a 3-2 victory.

Stoneclough’s fixture at Askam United was postponed due to an accident en route, when a car carrying five players aquaplaned and crashed on the M6 during the journey north.

Though no one was seriously injured, with five players stuck by the side of the carriageway the club took the decision to call off the match.

“It would have been nice to go up there and win to set up this Saturday’s big match [against title contenders Hawcoat Park],” said secretary Peter Conroy. “But with five players involved it was the right decision to tell the league what had happened and that they weren’t in the right state to play.

“It’s a shame, if we had won it would have put us right up there but most of the results on Saturday went our way.

“Hawcoat and Leyland United are strong teams and ourselves, Eagley and CMB should be up there and my dark horses are Lytham. I think those are the five or six teams who’ll be up there.

“We’ve started well, we’ve got a new three-man joint management team, Rob Rostron has come back and he’s joined by Dean Walmsley and Craig Leader who were at Ladybridge [whose senior team has now folded] last season and they’re working well together. It won’t be easy on Saturday but we’re going well and need to keep our momentum going.”

Horwich St Mary’s Victoria are joint top of Division Two after their 3-2 win at home to Croston Sports, Scott Adamson, Matt Hancock and Joby Patel were their scorers.

In the Lancashire Amateur League there were top-flight wins for Blackrod Town, 4-1 at home to Thornleigh, and Little Lever, who won 1-0 at Whitworth Valley. In Division One, Horwich RMI won 2-1 at home to Valley United but Bolton Wyresdale lost 3-2 at Chaddertonians.

Breightmet United finally played their first match but it ended in a heavy home defeat, 9-1 to Walshaw Reserves.
