AFTER a summer break, the return of the Bolton Sports Federation Over-35s League saw its rejuvenated players produce 105 goals in 15 games.

Divisions One and Three each saw 27 goals, Division Two had 15 goals from just three matches and there were 36 goals in the Fourth Division where Heaton Casuals trounced Bury Seniors 17-1.

In Division One, two goals apiece by Marvin Brown, Carl Lomax, Daz Buckley and Abid Udin gave Radcliffe Old Boys A a resounding 8-1 victory over Queen Lizzy while Radcliffe Vets A beat Bar Lane Bowling Club 3-0.

Despite Allan Houghton and Tony Weall scoring for Salford Victoria, they went down 6-2 at Rochdale Sports for whom Daz Smith and Ryan Staniland each struck twice, Gary Holt and Danny Stokes also scoring.

Salford Waggon hosted newly-promoted AFC Dobbies A and lost 4-3. Gary McShane (two), Anthony Healey and Terrance Sinney scored for them.

It was not such a good day for AFC Dobbies B in Division Two as they lost 3-2 at home to Bolton Lads and Girls Club for whom VJ Mistry, Allan Mitchell and Russ Ving were on target. Gary Davenport and Chris Peddler replied for Dobbies.

Adam O’Shaughnessy and Sean Scully scored for Radcliffe Town, but Chris Tonge, James Charlton, Dan Purnell and Sammy Crowell earned visitors Horwich St Mary’s a 4-2 win.

Last season’s Division Three runners-up, Home Guard Failsworth, had a difficult start to life in Division Two as they lost 5-1 at Old Bolts.

The all-Radcliffe match in Division Three resulted in Radcliffe Vets B losing 5-2 at home to Radcliffe Old Boys B.

James Ashton scored both goals for the home side, but a Nathan Cormley hat-trick and a goal apiece by Mark Owen and Paul Bentley earned the visitors the points.

A new name in Division Three, Royal Farnworth Vets had a 5-3 home win against Bolton Wyresdale, thanks to a Mark Drew brace and one each for Steve Goodridge, Andrew Dealer and Steve Nightingale. Jason Knowles, Wes Booth and Taylor Madondo also scored to keep Wyresdale in the game.

It was honours even as Tavern Vets and Moss Bank drew 2-2 while Simon DeLean’s brace for The Lever Arms was not enough as they crashed to a 6-2 defeat at the hands of newcomers Gidlow Athletic – Martin Meehan scoring five and Steve Bell the other.

In Division Four, Wigan Town lost to Unity Brook, with Des Morris scoring the only goal of the game.

Michael Jefferson and Martin Jones scored hat-tricks and Gareth Harrison one as Ainsworth Vets saw off Atherton Town 7-2.

Martin Jordan and Scott Mulcrew scored for the visitors.

Deans Youth made an encouraging start to the season with Steve Lockett, Mark Brady, Andy Horrocks and Martin Smedley all finding the net in their 4-4 draw at home to PF Bury.

The opening day’s big winners were Heaton Casuals as they put 17 goals past luckless Bury Seniors.

Kie Sales scored four times while Damian Smith and Lee Smith both notched hat-tricks.

Clint McLoughlin, Chris Sutcliffe and Ian Midfields each scored twice and Rob Walsh contributed the other goal for Heaton.
