BOLTON Hockey Club men's first team got their season off to a flying start with a 3-0 victory at Fylde.

After taking 20 minutes to shake off the rust the visitors went ahead when George Brennan coolly slotted home a well-worked move.

Brennan doubled his tally and the lead with an excellent finish from the edge of the D before John Woods completed the scoring.

The club's ladies' first team could not replicate their men's opening-day win when they lost theirs 2-1 at home to Alderley Edge's second team.

Bolton had to defend solidly in a first half which saw them go into the break trailing 1-0.

Alderley Edge doubled their lead at the beginning of the second half and it was not until the last 15 minutes that the home side applied significant pressure.

Some great link-up play between Jenny Brookfield and Jessica Harwood brought a short corner which produced a deflected Jenny Brookfield goal after a great drag flick from Louise Bull.

The ladies' second team also lost, 3-0 to Didsbury.

Viv Lake went close after a lovely passing move down the left, and good work by Jess Flegg and Debbie Green brought Bolton a succession of short corners.

Didsbury drew first blood and were denied a second by a goal-line clearance by Rebecca Denton.

Didsbury doubled the lead five minutes from half time, and Bolton were unlucky to concede a third in a second half they dominated, hitting the crossbar twice with shots from Debbie Nicholson and Fiona Clarke from short corners.

Lake also turned out for the ladies' third team and hit a hat-trick in a resounding 7-0 victory over Manchester Moss Park Ladies' third team.

Abi Harrop got the first goal of the season for the team and, added to Lake's first-half treble and and a goal from Lucy Griffiths, Bolton went into the break 5-0 up before Lucy Chadwick added the other two goals in the second half.
