SHIRTS worn by Wanderers as a mark of respect to team-mate Stephen Darby on Saturday have been put up for auction to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Eleven home jerseys bearing the name and number ‘Darby 23’ have been signed by the whole squad and put up on Ebay.

The idea of auctioning the shirts – which were worn by the players as they came out of the tunnel before Saturday’s hard-earned victory against Derby County - came from kit manager Paul Huddy. All shirts will come with a certificate of authenticity.

Darby announced he had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease last month, forcing his immediate retirement from the game.

Phil Parkinson has also revealed the former Liverpool and Bradford City defender will soon be officially offered an new role at the club.

“Darbs will be coming in during the week and there are a few roles we have got ear-marked for him,” he told The Bolton News. “Ken (Anderson) has already spoken about getting him into the training ground and doing a bit of analyst work, because we’re a bit short in that department, helping Kristian Aldred.

“There are one or two other areas he can help us, too. We want to keep Stephen involved.”
