TORRENTIAL rain that turned roads into rivers and fields into lakes did not stop Lostock AC's Adrian Hope, Brian Halton and Mike Ernill from completing the Langdale Horseshoe fell race.

One of the classic Lakeland fell events, starting and finishing in the Old Dungeon Ghyll, the race visits some of the Lake District's iconic peaks including Bowfell, Crinkle Craggs and Pike O'Blisco over 12.5 miles and 4,600 feet of climbing.

Racing in treacherous conditions, where any slip could result in serious injury, Hope finished in 4hrs 1min 45secs, followed by Brian Halton with a time of 4:08:17 and Mike Ernill in 4:08:19.

The remaining Lostock contingent were unable to finish the race due to the puzzling decision of the race organisers to reduce the cut-off times after lengthening the route because of flooding.

The other Lostocker to feel the force of Storm Callum was Sally McCoy, who ran the Yorkshire Marathon for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Again running in driving rain, McCoy completed her first marathon in 3:58:36.

At the Manchester Half Marathon, Stuart Hatton, James Jackson and Paul Lacey all turned in strong runs of 1:38:50, 1:46:36 and 1:48:49 respectively.

In parkrun at Bolton, Andy Laycock clocked 25:41, while at Haigh Hall, Gareth Pratt finished in 23:58.
