THIS week's rummage around The Bolton News picture archives has unearthed this photograph of a St Stephen's and All Martyrs CE primary school team from May 1988.

The information accompanying the picture says the team were celebrating with the trophy after beating Crompton Fold CP school 3-2 to win the Withins Five-A-Side Junior Cup.

Are you on the photograph or do you recognise any of the faces?

Did you play for the school team that year or against them?

Email david.pye@nqnw.co.uk with any memories.

THE second picture was printed in last week's nostalgia section and features the Bolton Under-14s football team who were

preparing for a trip to the USA in August 1978.

Reader Andy Taylor recognised himself in the line-up and said: "I recognise myself – front left with blond hair – crikey where do 40 years go?

"We had a great team back then and many of us were part of Moss Bank that had been formed by my dad and friends way back in 1975.

"We were coached by Dave Bushell who I think went on to become an FA coach and worked at Manchester United.

"We played US public schools in New York State and Philadelphia as I recall and stayed with American families who were really good to us.

"We won all our matches as well, as the American kids were not as talented back then.

"Mike Bennison, who was captain, went on to have a great career in the Bolton Cricket League.

"Fantastic times and will keep it as a memento."

Meanwhile, Dave Price emailed: "The 1970s U14s Town Team photo prior to their USA trip shows team managers Dave Bushell and Steve Williamson in the centre of the photo, while behind Dave is well-known local cricketer Mike Bennison.

"Steve Williamson worked as a PE Teacher at St Annes’s, Harwood and later Thornleigh College, while Dave Bushell went on to become England Schoolboys U15s manager, counting Ryan Joseph Wilson – later better known as Giggs – Garry Flitcroft and Jamie Redknapp as some of his international players.

"Jimmy Phillips, the BWFC academy manager, was in one of Dave’s Bolton Boys' teams.

"Dave went on to join Manchester United as youth development officer, head of education and welfare and is now an academy player liaison officer there."
