WANDERERS have confirmed Gary O’Neil faces at least a fortnight on the side-lines after scans on a calf injury.

The midfielder limped out during the first half of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Rotherham United and could now be replaced by Josh Vela or Luke Murphy against Forest tomorrow night.

Steve Parkin also revealed that Will Buckley has been out of action with a hamstring injury sustained during the international break and that Sammy Ameobi – missing since the defeat against QPR in mid-September – is also nearing a full recovery after ankle ligament damage.

“Bucko has trained for a couple of days and is well on the road to recovery,” he said. “He got a slight hamstring injury but he’s back involved now, so we’ll see how he is.

“Sammy is making good progress and been doing straight-line running, twisting and turning today so he’s not far off. I’m not sure exactly what game he’ll be back but he’s definitely improving.”

Erhun Oztumer also looks likely to return to the side after sitting out the Rotherham game completely.

Parkin said the decision to leave the play-maker at home was purely tactical.

“We just felt the game would pass him by a bit, to be honest,” he said. “We were a bit concerned about the physicality of it and we’ve got three games in seven days, so it’s important we’ll flip things around.

“He has trained well since Saturday.”
