THE new M65 Junior Badminton League got under way recently with 13 teams involved.

Teams competing were from Blackburn, Colne, Oldham and Forrest of Bolton.

Competition was graded for youngsters – Year 11 and under and Year 9 and under who are not involved with Lancashire representative teams.

The most popular section was the Year 9 and under Open which consisted of two teams from Colne, one from Blackburn and the Forrest team, who finished on top unbeaten in three matches with a record of 14 games for, and only one against.

The team consisted of Minuka Keraminiyage, Max Hardcastle, James Pilling and Oliver Di Marcello.

Forrest also had a team in the Year 11 mixed section, consisting of Leah Rowlinson, Rebecca Latham, Sam Brierley, Duy Luong and Darrell Evans.

The Year 9 mixed section also contained a Forrest team of Anusha Jais, Pippa Hardcastle, Nikhil Patel, Ben Pitlovits and Max Rowlinson.

The aim of the league is to provide competition badminton for the youngsters and all the players enjoyed the experience of competing in matches.

It is hoped the league will grow and attract more teams in the future.
