THIS week's visit to The Bolton News picture library has unearthed this photograph of Thornleigh Salesian College's under-15s' football team from June 1989.

The information accompanying the picture says the team were winners of the Bolton Wanderers Cup after beating Withins School 2-1 after extra time at Burnden Park.

Did you play for Thornleigh in that final of against them?

Do you recognise any faces in the line-up or have any other memories of that side?

Email david.pye@nqnw.co.uk with any recollections.

THE second picture was reprinted in last week's sporting nostalgia section and features the St Stephen’s and All Martyrs CE primary school team from May 1988.

Reader Andrew Pidd spotted himself on the photograph and emailed in his memories.

He said: "Pictured, from left, are Richard Green, Stephen Dyson, Darren O'Reilly (holding the cup), Richard Heys, me and Chris Durrant.

"From memory we were quite a formidable five-a-side team and were in regular school finals and on this occasion we managed to win the cup.

"We were managed by Arnold Slaney, the headmaster, and a fella called Joe, who used to help out with training and was a friend of Mr Slaney's.

"His last name escapes me but he was heavily involved in youth football around Bolton at that time.

"Some happy memories and good times with them boys – thanks for featuring the picture."

Meanwhile, Tony Durrant said: "I remember this game well, my son played.

"I can only remember four of them, the lads at the front, from left, are Richard Green, Darren O'Reilly (with the cup), Andrew Pidd and Chris Durrant – my son – on the right. Great photo."

Richard Green recognised himself on the picture while Joe Cunniff said: "I can see my nephew Darren holding the cup."

Kerry Morley put names to all the faces as well and added: "I recognise all the people in the photo, my brother is holding the cup – Darren O'Reilly – and remembers playing and being unbeaten all season that year.

"It was their last year at primary school."
