ROBERT and Mark Seddon were victorious in the OMM mountain marathon which took place in the Black Mountains of South Wales last weekend.

The two-day race for teams of two involves navigating around the hills each day while carrying everything needed to camp overnight.

Mark has done lots of these events before but it was Robert's first time.

The weather saw blizzards on Saturday and sub-zero temperatures overnight.

The pair ran well on the first day to lead the combined course, but were a little slower on day two.

However, they held on to win overall, with Mark commenting he was “very proud of Robert who coped really well with the challenge”.

There was also a second fell race win of the year for Dan Gilbert at the Race You To The Summit race above Littleborough.

He benefited from knowing when not to follow runners in front of him – a key fell-running skill.

In a closely-matched top five, the first four took the wrong route off the summit but Gilbert knew where he was going and was justly rewarded with a fine win.

Graham Schofield notched up yet another fell MV60 category win and Mark Walsh was third MV50.

Time2Run events are a Bolton-based UK-wide organisation and last weekend they put on two events locally.

On Saturday, at Barrow Bridge, it was the Halloween-inspired Trick or Treat 4-mile trail race where Kimberley Chadderton was second woman home.

The race did not need any navigation, unlike Chadderton’s last race in the fell relays where she had been pleased to have Mark Seddon’s orienteering skills to help get her around the course.

On Sunday, Time2Run had moved over Winter Hill to stage the Serpent’s Tail 6 mile trail race around the Smithills estate where David Barnes was second MV60.

The Accrington 10k road race is a well-regarded event in the region and attracts a sizeable field which this year resulted in five Blackburn Harriers taking the top spots.

Horwich's Maria McMyler was first FV35 in a category of 41 runners, while Tony Hesketh had another age-category win by taking the MV70 prize.

The top two Horwich finishers were Chris Essex-Crosby and Sean McMyler.

In parkrun it was another first woman place for Suzanne Budgett, this time at Worsley Woods.

Jack Barrago got a new personal-best time in coming home first at the Queens Park junior parkrun on Sunday. Ellie Rockliffe was first female at the same venue.

The previous day, Ellie and her brother James had run the all-age Pennington Flash 5k parkrun and Ellie was first F11-14 with James second M11-14.

Michael Crook was first M70-74 in the same parkrun as Ellie and James.

Luke Brindle was third at Bolton parkrun and Sandra Kelly was third woman at the Mole Valley parkrun in Surrey.
