TWO young Bolton boxers had victories in the Girls and Boys Club Championships.

The pair, who train at Bury ABC under Amir Khan's former coach Mick Jelley, both won on points on Saturday in Croxteth, Liverpool alongside club-mate Kian Winstanley.

Abdul Khan, from Halliwell, a 16-year-old fighting at 52-54kg Class B, saw off Phoenix Fire boxer Tom Bennett thanks to a split decision after Winstanley won his bout on a unanimous points decision.

Making it a hat-trick of Bury ABC wins was 16-year-old Boltonian Ali Akbar Javid who fought at Class B 63kg.

He won unanimously on points against the highly-rated Everton Red Triangle fighter Kevin Connell.

Connell has represented England and coach Jelley said it was a superb win for Javid.

The longstanding club trainer said: “The lad from Everton is a good boxer and has fought nationally but Ali performed really well on the night and deserved his win – as did Kian and Abdul.

“It really was a good night for the club.”
