DEANE B hosted Forrest D in their B Section match of the Bolton Badminton League this week.

The opening pair of games was shared when Deane’s Georgina Ryding and Robert Brocklehurst won the first 21-14, but in a hard-fought second Georgina King and James Wallen triumphed 23-21.

Forrest’s first couple, Nalisha Patel and Ian Winrow then claimed both their games 21-14, against Patricia Beck and John Cole respectively.

Forrest’s Karen Holden and Philip Barlow then claimed both games fairly comfortably 21-9, 21-13, against

Margaret Wong and Umer Azeem when the third couples met.

In the clash of the first couples, third-placed in the section Deane’s Ryding and Brocklehurst came out on top 21-15, 22-20, against Patel and Winrow.

When the second couples met their games were shared, Deane’s Beck and Cole took the first 21-14, King and Wallen claimed the second 21-15.

Going into the level doubles Deane’s Wong and Ryding edged their team ahead claiming the first pair of ladies’ games 21-15, 21-19, against Holden and Patel.

Bringing the score back level, Forrest’s Barlow and Winrow took the first pair of men’s games 21-19, 21-11, against Azeem and Brocklehurst.

The match see-sawed back in Deane’s favour when Wong and Beck won the second pair of ladies’ games 21-11, 23-21, against Holden and King.

Going into the final pair of men’s games, Deane were in a draw position but the determined pair of Barlow and Wallen were not to be denied, claiming both games comfortably, 21-5, 21-9, against Azeem and Cole, gaining a draw for fourth-placed Forrest.

In another Section B match, Sharples B played Deane A and the opening games were shared.

Alison Holt and Andy Woods, Sharples’ first pair, won the first 21-18 and Jean Smith and Mike Woods claimed the second 21-17.

Fifth-placed in the Section, Deane’s first couple Janice Jackson and Tony Waring then won the next two games 21-16, 21-17, against Amy Larcombe and Chris Elcock.

When the third couples met Sharples’ Janette Owen and Barry Hilton claimed both games 21-17, 21-12, against Georgina Ryding and Brian Strickland.

In the clash of the first couples, the games were shared – Jackson and Waring claiming the first for Deane 21-12 and Holt and Woods taking the second 21-16.

Deane’s Smith and Woods then claimed both games when the second couples met 21-17, 21-17, against Larcombe and Elcock.

At the conclusion of the mixed games, Deane were ahead 6-4 but in the first pair of ladies’ games Sharples’ Owen and Holt claimed both games 21-17, 21-12, to even the match, against Ryding and Jackson.

Sixth-placed Sharples’ Hilton and Woods edged their team in front winning both games 21-13, 21-16, against Strickland and Waring in the first pair of men’s games.

Sharples’ second pair of ladies, Owen and Larcombe then won both games 21-12, 21-15, against Ryding and Smith.

Although Deane’s Strickland and Woods fought on to claim both the final men’s games 21-13, 21-15, against Hilton and Elcock, Sharples’ had already won the match 10-8.
