BURNDEN had two winners at the Red Rose Cross Country League meeting around Leverhulme Park.

Steve Nolan was first V55 in the men’s race with a time of 42mins 48secs and Anne Ferguson took the L60 category in 25:54.

Jonathan Sangster led the Burnden team home in the men’s race, finishing 37th overall in 40:08, just ahead of Nolan, followed by Pete Hopley (43:45), Keith Thomas (46:55), Mark Cannon (47:49), Christophe Menand (48:54), Tony Wall (49:28) and Frank Mackin (58:20).

Sarah Watton was 28th overall in the ladies' race with a time of 24:23. Lyndsay Darbyshire was third L50 in 25:40 and Les Kaneen was second L55 in 26:19.

Other results: Shirley Staveley 26:40, Clare McKenna 28:00, Kath Page 30:46, Louise Wall 31:50, Liz Hopley 32:12.

Lorraine Halwood completed her 46th marathon and Jackie Oakes her 18th at the Swinsty and Fewston Festival in Timble, near Harrogate.

Oakes was third in the women’s race with a time of 4:38:37 with Halwood fourth female finisher in 4:44:36.

The Mad Bull Torch Challenge 5-mile night trail race through the woods around Rivington saw Andy Staveley finish fourth overall and first V55 in 37:01 – less than 90 seconds behind the winner. Adrian Ashburn was next home in 44:07.

Then came a string of age-group winners. Mumtaz Patel was first F45 in 44:45, Elaine Roper first F55 in 55:28, Brenda Sedgwick first F70 in 1:12:02 and Paul Sedgwick first V70 in 1:12:16.

Debra Hennessey was the club’s sole representative at the Remembrance Day Windmill 10k at Lytham and crossed the line in 60:28.

Sarah and Tony Woodiwiss took advantage of holidaying in Florida to tackle the Florida Run Half Marathon at Lake Louisa State Park.

Sarah completed the undulating, sandy trail course in 2:14:34, pipping Tony who came over the line in 2:20:32.
