THIS week's rummage around the archives at The Bolton News has unearthed this picture of Bolton Schoolboys Under-15s football team taken in September 1977.

The accompanying information says the team left Ashburner Street in Bolton heading for twin town Paderborn in Germany to be guests of the Green White Club.

They were due to play games in Germany and at the front is captain Brian Atherton, from Bolton County Grammar School, holding a plaque which would be presented to their hosts.

Do you recognise anyone else on the photograph or did you play for the team?

Did you go on the trip to Germany that year and have any memories?

Email david.pye@nqnw.co.uk with any recollections.

MORE readers have been in touch with their memories of the Thornleigh Salesian College’s under-15s’ football team from June 1989, featured in the sporting nostalgia section on October 25.

Simon Walker emailed in and said: "I am sat down on the far right – I was centre forward.

"We had a really good team and I can name them all, starting back, from left: Mr Clark (great teacher, good laugh), Andrew Noone (had trials at Man United, our best player), ? McGuiness, Matthew Leighton, Chris Jowels (still see him for the lads' curry night, good friend), Martin Jordan, Andrew Clark (Mr Clark's son), Mr Henderson (great chap, would like to thank him for all his efforts and Saturday mornings looking after this bunch); front, Chris Healey, Ste Brady, Barry Dawson, Paul Fisher and me.

"Matt, Chris H, Ste, Paul and I all went to the same primary school as well.

"This was a great team – we won loads of games and a few trophies, we all played in Sunday League teams as well.

"I remember playing in that match at Burnden Park – the pitch was so big and nearly square.

"Andrew Noone and Martin Jordan scored our goals, Martin scored a great free kick as well which would have made it 3-1 but I was offside – he never let me forget it.

"We all had nicknames and they were golden years.

"Thanks for showing the photo, we will all be about 45 this year."
