THIS week’s delve into the sporting archives at The Bolton News has dug up this picture of St William's FC taken in August 1988.

The information accompanying the picture says the team are lining up ahead of a three-match pre-season tour to Malta.

They are pictured with Paul O'Berg – the managing director of Tinos Travel in Bolton who helped arrange the tour for the teenagers.

Do you recognise any of the players or did you play for St Williams?

Do you have any memories of that team or did you go on the trip to Malta?

Email any recollections to david.pye@nqnw.co.uk.

THE second picture was featured in last week's sporting nostalgia section and is of Moss Bank FC’s under-14s from July 1989.

It brought back memories for several readers who got in touch.

John Ryan said: "The photograph is a very poignant one.

"The player second from left, next to the manager on the back row, is Rob Dobie who recently passed away after a long battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

"Only last Saturday the paper printed an article about him and his family hoping to resurrect the three-legged Christmas race at Edgworth.

"He is already sadly missed.

"The player in the centre of the front row is Rob's lifelong best friend Sam Griffiths. He did his pal proud through his illness and funeral.

"On Sam's right is Dean Fist, while the player to Rob's left is Chris Carr and the keeper is Danny Archer.

"All the lads named went to Turton High School and were excellent players.

"I think all played at county level so the haul of trophies is not surprising.

"I think Dean also was a youth professional at BWFC.

"Rob and Chris went on to have careers in the police force.

"It raised a smile when I saw the picture and I'm sure it did for all on it and those coming to terms with Rob's passing. Thank you for printing the picture."

Meanwhile, David Maughan spotted himself in the line-up and said: "I represented Moss Bank and feature in the picture that was in The Bolton News.

"I played for about eight seasons from 11 years old."
