WANDERERS lost a point at the death thanks to Teemu Pukki’s late goal at Carrow Road – but got plenty of plaudits for a brave performance in difficult circumstances.

But how did we rate the players? And who grabbed man of the match in a 3-2 defeat? Marc Iles gives his verdict.

The Bolton News:

Team rating – 10/10: Regardless of the result, Phil Parkinson’s side showed more passion and pride than anyone could have expected. They have been let down by their employer – but the response was first class.

WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)

BEN ALNWICK…6.5 Captain for the day and produced a decent show, making a couple of smart stops. Only possible question mark would be positioning on the first goal from Vrancic.

PAWEL OLKOWSKI…6 Not quite as economical in possession as he has been this season but the Pole provided a couple of good crosses and kept positive.

JACK HOBBS…7.5 Very composed performance against a Norwich front line with plenty of movement. Keeping Wheater out of the side – which says it all.

MARK BEEVERS…7.5 Playing into a good vein of form at the moment. Beevers had been sound defensively even before the goal, his second of the season.

ANDY TAYLOR…7.5 Showed a willingness to get forward, linking up well with the midfield, but his defensive positioning was excellent too. Unlucky with the third goal.

JOE WILLIAMS…8 Roared round Carrow Road, his tackle count reaching double figures by the end of the afternoon. Caught on the ball a couple of times – which must improve – but a real scrapper.

JASON LOWE…7 Complemented Williams well and didn’t waste the ball when he got it. Lowe has started to pick his moments to get forward too, and nearly scored with a scorching volley.

CRAIG NOONE..6 The customary mountain of running and chasing but the final product wasn’t quite there on the day.

SAMMY AMEOBI…6 Gave the referee a decision to make on the red card, so was probably avoidable, but got involved and grabbed a goal. Fitness seems to be improving.

WILL BUCKLEY…6 Missed a big chance to open the scoring early on which would have made for a very different afternoon.

CHRISTIAN DOIDGE…6.5 Very unselfish performance from the Wanderers front man. No shots at goal but a crucial block in his own penalty box.

Subs: Hernandez 83 (for Buendia), Rhodes 87 (for Stiepermann), Srbenny (for Pukki) 90+6

Referee: Scott Duncan 5/10 – Set his stall out early on with Ameobi’s yellow card but then failed to punish a few other niggling challenges the same way. Meant the second yellow felt a bit harsh.
