JACK Hobbs says there is a desire to “put things right” for Wanderers against Brentford tomorrow.

After narrow defeats to Norwich City and Leeds United the defender aims to put his frustration to good use at Griffin Park.

Phil Parkinson reckons his team have the character to get out of their current predicament and summer signing Hobbs maintains performances have been better than the league position suggests.

“I think the most frustrating thing from a personal point of view is that we have lost a lot of games by the odd goal,” he said.

“It isn’t like we’re losing three or four-nil, especially against the league leaders or second-placed, as Leeds were.

“There is a determination to put it right, to do the right things, to listen to the gaffer and do exactly as he is asking of us.

“We take confidence from that. I guess it’s the focus for 95 minutes and concentration levels, really, the work-rate and fight from the lads is there for all to see.

“Maybe a bit more quality on the ball at times but there has to be concentration for the whole game.”

After pay problems were resolved last week, Parkinson hoped for a week without distractions as he prepared for a run of games which could make or break Wanderers’ season.

Hobbs maintains, however, that the Whites boss enforced upon his players that their pay row with club owner Ken Anderson should not be allowed to impact upon their performances out on the pitch.

“The gaffer said to us ‘that’s an excuse, it’s not a reason’ and we have got to approach games correctly,” he said. “We have got to give 100 per cent out there and I hope fans can see we’re trying our best.

“We have got to keep plugging away and if we give that same level of fight and desire every week, we must be due some results.”

Hobbs signed from Nottingham Forest in the summer after a few years at the City Ground where he experienced life at both ends of the table.

He feels, however, there is a better spirit in his current dressing room and hopes that will soon translate into results.

“They (Forest) have spent a fair amount of millions in this window and keep seeming to sign players constantly. Even when the window was shut they were still bringing players in. So obviously the squad depth and quality is impressive and they showed it when they came here,” he said.

“I think the desire and fight here is more, and better, and hopefully that will see us out of the bottom three sooner rather than later.

“You have got to keep your professionalism, keep believing that things will change.”
