PHIL Parkinson says he won’t give up hope of adding to his Wanderers squad until the bitter end of the transfer window.

Mounting financial problems and a registration embargo currently make the chances of strengthening the Bolton squad looks slim.

But Parkinson is hoping the problems will subside before the end of the month and that a rabbit could be yet pulled from the hat.

Furthermore he says squad additions – and particularly a replacement for striker Christian Doidge – are a must if the Whites are to pull themselves clear of the bottom three.

“I am still hopeful,” he said when asked of the chance new signings will be in the building before January 31. “And it’s important we do strengthen the team. It might not happen next week, it might go to the wire, but we would like to freshen up the team.”

One potential candidate scored for the development squad on Monday night in a 3-2 victory against Nottingham Forest.

Free agent, Chris David, a Dutch midfielder who has recently been on the books at FC Utrecht, has been drafted in to train with the first team this week and has been staying in the club hotel.

Signed by Martin Jol at Craven Cottage from Ajax, the youth international was tipped for big things when he first arrived in English football but suffered injury problems and played only a handful of games in West London before being loaned out.

He did score on his Premier League debut, however, netting against Crystal Palace as a late substitute in May 2014 - one of just six appearances he made for the Cottagers before being moved on to FC Twente.

Now he wants to resurrect his career in England and has accepted the offer of a trial at Lostock this week.

Parkinson takes his side to Bristol City on Saturday hoping another week of off-the-field distraction will not impinge on the players’ performance.

“We’re a resilient group, though and we have shown that time and time again. The staff and the players keep bouncing back,” he added.
