RONAN Darcy scored twice for resilient Wanderers as they grabbed a 4-2 victory against Crystal Palace in the FA Youth Cup.

Nicky Spooner and Gavin McCann’s side booked a place in the fifth round against Leicester City by twice coming from a goal down at Selhurst Park.

Wanderers made a fast start, Matty Argent-Barnes and Luca Connell bringing early saves out of Jacob Russell, but Palace seized the advantage from the penalty spot after Will Donkin had been tripped by keeper Callum James.

Brandon Aviero slotted home from the spot but Wanderers’ reaction was good. Max Broughton arrowed one effort past the woodwork and Callum King-Harmes also went close to his first goal for the club.

The pressure continued after half time as Connell’s free-kick dropped just over the crossbar – but just as Palace looked to be recovering some poise Ronan Darcy opened up space for Argent-Barnes to slot his shot into the bottom corner.

Eddie Brown should have made it 2-1 to Bolton after breaking clean through on goal and it appeared his side might pay for it when Addy squared for David Boateng to restore Palace’s lead on the hour.

Again Wanderers found a response. Nathan Whalley went on a surging run down the left and when his cross was deflected into Darcy’s path, he produced a deft finish from the edge of the box to make it 2-2.

Palace looked like they would finish the stronger of the two teams and Aviero went close to a second – but a defensive mistake would swing the tie decisively in Bolton’s favour. Cardo Siddik was the unlucky man, unknowingly deflecting his own keeper’s clearance into the net after a mix-up on the edge of the area.

With the home side pushing forward for an equaliser to send it into penalties Wanderers were able to make the game completely safe in stoppage time. Argent-Barnes turned creator for Darcy, who slipped the ball through the keeper’s legs for the fourth.
