Today due to the weather there was unfortunately only 4 games that survived in the Bolton at Home Sunday Football League however this did not stop some entertaining games and the pick of the bunch was the match between 4th placed Astley Bridge Elite and 2nd placed Newbury FC who between managed to share the points in a 8 goal Thriller. Midway through the first half Astley Bridge took the lead through an excellent finish by Dan Mogford. Then with 10 minutes left in the first half Newbury’s Dominic Sharples found himself in the Astley Bridge penalty area only to have his legs taken from him and the referee Aron Mccarthy immediately pointed to the spot and up stepped prolific striker Karl Dunbarton who made no mistake and the teams went in at half time level. The second half got underway and straight from the kick off Astley Bridge were piling on the pressure and after only 8 minutes of restart they retook the lead when Chris Donahue found himself with only the Goalkeeper to beat and he made no mistake.

Newbury started to play themselves back into the game and they created a few chances but they just could just not beak Elite’s defence, that was until the 65th minute when Sam Bradley placed an excellent defence splitting pass and there was Dunbarton to knock the ball into the back of the net and the teams were again level.

The goal seemed to lift Astley Bridge into another gear and only 2 minutes later they retook the lead through Anthony Blears who hit an excellent shot from the edge of the penalty area which nestled in the back of the Net. The Elite were now playing some excellent football and with 10 minutes to go Chris Donahue took the ball into Newbury’s penalty area and unfortunately for Newbury he was upended by defender Chris Lyons and again Mccarthy pointed to the spot. Donahue himself picked up the ball and from the spot he got his second of the match and Astley Bridge’s now lead by 4-2. Everybody who was at this game would have thought that Astley Bridge Elite were going to take the 3 points however Newbury’s Sam Bradley had other ideas and with 5 minutes to go he made the scoresheet 4-3 after some excellent work from the man of the match Karl Dunbarton. Then with only a minute to go Dominic Sharples found himself free and hit a shot that the Astley Bridge Goalkeeper could only parry and there was Bradley to knock the ball into the back of the net and the game finished 4-4.

League leaders and last season’s champions Top Club travelled to Little Levers 4g pitch to take on Grapes FC and they want back to Little Hulton with the 3 points as they convincingly beat Grapes by 16-1 hero for Top Club was Lewis Porter as he found himself on the scoresheet 5 times with the other goals coming from Callum Smith 4,Adam Doyle 3,Ash Kirkman ,Josh Smith and Ryan Porter with Leroy West getters the consolation goal for the lowly Grapes.

Tempest FC carried on their fine form of late as they entertained Unity Brook at Ladybridge Fc and they made it 6 games unbeaten as they won by 8-1 the hero for Tempest was their Centre forward Heath Ainscow as he managed to find the net 5 times, with the other goals coming from Blaine Sobutto, Barry Suddinet and Kris Powers, with Brad Jackson getting the consolation goal for Unity Brook.

The last game to played today was a local derby at Dolan Park between Breightmet Wanderers and Bolton Town. With the Wanderers taking the 3 points with a hard earned 5-2 victory. Breightmet took the lead after only 10 minutes with an excellent finish from Kyle Bailey. Then 5 minutes later Bolton Town equalised through Steve Quinn after some excellent work from Paul Hornby New.

Midway through the first half Breightmet retook the lead as Kyle Bailey got his second of the Match. Then 5 minutes before half time Michael Entwistle making his debut for Breightmet Wanderers against the team he left ironically put the ball into his own net and the teams went in at half time level.

The second got underway and Breightmet were the team who were plying all the pressure and with 5 minutes of the half gone man of the match Bailey pounced on a mistake by the Bolton Town defence and he made no mistake as he knocked the ball passed the Bolton Town keeper to get his hatrick and The Wanderers 3rd goal. Breightmet were now the the team on top and they managed to score another 2 goals through Dillin Hewitt and Dave Sheeran and the game finished 5-2.
